Our aim is to eliminate all forms of discrimination and prejudice and promote equality, good relations and a harmonious community. Our organisation has grown considerably to fight not just racial discrimination but all types of discrimination as well as support much needed community development work.
Purpose of Job:
1. To work directly with communities to share insights, develop ideas and interventions to address tensions
2. To develop work with statutory organisations and the VCF sector to develop networks and shared approaches to community cohesion
3. To engage with members of the local community to encourage dialogue and widening of participation
4. To consult all communities and stakeholders on the development, design and implementation of community relations initiatives
Key tasks:
1. To develop an Equality Forum to focus on community cohesion, engagement and consultation
2. To promote positive, cohesive relations between communities and individuals
3. To work as critical friend with local organisations, including the statutory, voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise sectors to hold to account and to ensure compliance with the Equality Act 2010
4. To develop agreed initiatives for community cohesion, inclusion and outreach activities aimed at supporting victims and helping to prevent and reduce hate crimes, intolerance, discrimination in all its forms
5. To seek opportunities for collaboration and partnerships aligned to RECC’S mission, values, strategic and operational plans for the advancement of equalities, diversity, social inclusion and human rights
6. To engage and communicate widely with local communities to identify issues of concern, work to address those issues and hold those responsible to account
7. To increase awareness of hate crimes and its causes and how to report and discourage it
8. To actively contribute to community development and the building of cohesive, resilient, inclusive support networks/groups for hate crime victims
9. To recruit, train and develop a team of equality champions and community volunteers
10. To regularly update, maintain digital and manual records, ensuring compliance with data protection regulations, cybersecurity, ICO requirements, etc
11. To review policies, procedures and records to ensure revisions and updates where required are reported to the Chair and RECC’S Board
12. The tasks listed above are not exclusive or exhaustive. The post holder will be required to undertake other relevant duties from time to time and to work flexibly as necessary, to assist the organisation to perform safely, efficiently, effectively, maintaining service levels to the public and its responsibilities to funders, donors, stakeholders and the wider local community August 2024
