Are you a strategic and collaborative leader who’s passionate about the power of community to create lasting change?

We’re looking for a Programme Director to help drive forward our vision of a fairer Redbridge where everyone and every community has an equal opportunity to thrive. In this pivotal role, you’ll lead the design and delivery of high-impact programmes that respond to local priorities and make a real difference.

Working closely with partners, funders and stakeholders, you’ll shape innovative approaches to tackling complex social challenges, amplifying community voices and championing the role of the voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector in influencing systems, policy and practice.

You’ll bring a collaborative, people-centred leadership style – building an empowering and inclusive team culture, promoting wellbeing and professional growth, and keeping a clear focus on impact, accountability and our shared organisational values: shifting power, collaborating, learning, and seeing the bigger picture.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is deeply committed to learning and understanding what matters most to the people, communities and organisations we serve, who thrives on partnership and innovation, and who wants to make a tangible difference in addressing inequalities and building stronger, more resilient communities.

Please note that this role can be offered on a hybrid basis, with a minimum of three days per week in the office. As an organisation rooted in community, we believe that regular in-office presence is important to foster collaboration, connection and team cohesion.

About Community Action Redbridge

Community Action Redbridge is a local infrastructure charity dedicated to building a fairer Redbridge where everyone and every community has an equal opportunity to thrive. Through our work, we support the development of strong and resilient communities where people lead happy, healthy, and fulfilling lives.

At the heart of our work is a commitment to social justice and to tackling the root causes of inequality. We’re passionate about shifting power, amplifying community voices, and working collaboratively to create social change.

We do this by:

  • Strengthening and championing the voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector, so local organisations have the tools and support they need to grow and thrive
  • Supporting local people to drive change in their own communities, through social action, volunteering and active participation
  • Bringing people and organisations together, from the VCSE sector, public services, and local businesses, to collaborate on shared ambitions for Redbridge.

How to apply

Please submit your CV and a covering letter answering the following 4 questions (no more than 500 words each):

1. Please describe a time when you provided strategic leadership across multiple programmes or projects. How did you ensure they were aligned to organisational priorities, and what impact did your leadership have on outcomes for communities?

2. This role requires building trust and collaboration across diverse partners, including the VCSE sector, funders, and statutory bodies. Can you give an example of how you have convened stakeholders around a shared goal and influenced systems, policy, or practice to drive change?

3. Please describe your experience of providing financial oversight across multiple projects or programmes. How have you reviewed budgets and monitored expenditure, and what steps have you taken to identify financial risks or opportunities that strengthened organisational sustainability and informed strategic decision-making?

4. Community Action Redbridge is driven by values of shifting power, collaborating, learning, and seeing the bigger picture. How have you demonstrated inclusive and values-led leadership in previous roles, and how would you foster an empowering and collaborative learning culture in this role?

Please submit your CV and covering letter to hello@communityactionredbridge.org.uk by 11.59pm on Sunday 28 September.

Interviews are expected to take place on Tuesday 7 and Wednesday 8 October.
