Community Action Redbridge is delighted to be bringing the award-winning work of Bags of Taste to Redbridge.
Bags of Taste is a free, fun and friendly short-term cooking course that you can take part in from home. A Bags of Taste Cooking Mentor will provide you with support and guidance to cook tasty, healthy and low-cost meals, and you'll get to share your experiences with others on the course.
Who is it for?
Bags of Taste is designed for people who are facing multiple challenges in their lives*. Finances, time, lack of equipment, caring responsibilities, disability and ill health all play their part in defining food choices and peoples' easy access to services. This is why Bags of Taste offers a flexible and supportive course where you only need a phone and access to a kitchen to take part.
To ensure we involve people who can benefit the most from Bags of Taste, we ask that all participants meet at least one of the following criteria:
- long term health condition
- poor mental health
- poor physical health
- unemployed
- single parent
- in receipt of welfare benefits.
How does it work?
Once you've agreed a start date with the Bags of Taste staff, they will deliver the ingredients for 3 specific recipes directly to your home. You'll be assigned to a small WhatsApp or telephone group of other Bags of Taste participants and be guided to try out the delicious dishes in your own time, you will just need to cook all the meals by the end of the 2-week course.
What happens next?
Once you've completed this form, Community Action Redbridge will pass your details to Bags of Taste who'll then call you to ask a few more questions, agree your start date and arrange for you to receive your free bag of cooking ingredients. We accept self referrals and referrals via other organisations.
*Please note:
Bags of Taste is a cooking course and not suitable for people experiencing serious food poverty who can contact or be referred to these organisations.
